Woman on woman hate speech

In today’s society, and with our technology, it is getting harder and harder to be a woman. There is a constant judgment and hate that is being spread across social media. I find it utterly disgusting.

Words have such a powerful effect on people. While I was growing up I remember my mom used to tell me “sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can never hurt you.” I used to believe her, but not anymore.

Social media is great; depending on what you use it for, it can be a fantastic thing. You get to connect with people and meet new people in a new way, but there are some that use it to just spew hate towards others. They must feel that they have a wall up because they are sitting behind a screen, but what they say is just unacceptable and rude.

I find it awful and horrible that women use social media to bash other women. They say some of the meanest things on there that should just never be said. There is no need for that kind of talk towards someone, especially towards a person whom you have never met before.

With Instagram the sharing of photos is an easy target for women to bash on other women. While on the popular page looking around at various pictures I came across this photo of a girl who was taking a “selfie” without any makeup on and a cute outfit in NYC.

I was just curious to see what type of comments she was receiving from that photo. The comments were split between some people accusing her of lying and saying she had makeup on while others were giving compliments.

First of all, you have no idea if she is wearing makeup or not because you did not see her taking the picture and you are not in her footsteps. Secondly, why does it matter so much if someone says they aren’t wearing makeup but maybe threw on a little?

Is it that big of a deal that you feel the need to comment that she isn’t wearing makeup when you don’t know her and don’t know what she looks like without makeup? Who made you the makeup police?

Another social media platform that has been popular with hate is Twitter. While the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was airing there were so many comments about the models weight and how they looked.

For many of these models this a huge honor to be walking in this fashion show. They get to wear some of the most expensive lingerie and the famous wings of Victoria’s Secret.

Bashing a woman for her size is just ridiculous. No matter what size you are it doesn’t mean that what someone will say is going to negate that statement and won’t make you feel bad. Let’s be honest here, we are women and we all have emotions and our insecurities.

You have no idea what that other person has gone through and what they are going through and you should not be trying to tear someone down. As women we have a lot of similar situations that we come across in our lifetime and we shouldn’t be tearing each other down. We should be there to support one another.

I am so tired of seeing so much hate and rudeness spread across social media. If we actually took a second to stop before saying something hateful and maybe took the time to get to know someone you might be surprised by what you will find out.

I have met so many amazing and empowering women on Twitter. I have met women that are starting their own businesses, charities and others that also want to be sports writers. If I didn’t take the time to get to know them I would probably be missing out on some great friendships and inspiring women that will make some great changes for not just society, but America.
