Cliteracy: the language of female sexuality

They say ignorance is bliss, but is it really so blissful when it comes to satisfying a woman?

The clitoris is a mystery to most men and, surprisingly, many women too. The clitoris is a sexual organ that’s sole function is to give women pleasure, but because it doesn’t have a urethra like the penis or any other function besides female enjoyment, scientists have been neglecting research on this fascinating organ for hundreds of years.

Sophia Wallace, artist and activist, has created the “Cliteracy Project” to bring awareness to the clitoris, sexual equality, and general empowerment for women all over the world. She has helped bring to light many facts about the clitoris, known by few until recently, by creating the wall of “100 natural laws” of Cliteracy.

For starters, what most people know as the clitoris is merely the tip of the iceberg. This tip has “8,000 sensory nerve fibers; more than anywhere else in the human body and nearly twice the amount found on the head of a penis”. The average clit is actually between “9 to 12 cm long and 6 cm wide”. It’s mostly an internal organ that wraps around the vagina while also branching out into the pelvis. It also becomes erect, like a penis, when stimulated. Looking at a diagram of the clitoris, it’s like an upside down wishbone that has a circle between the arms of the wishbone.

The project isn’t just about the generally unknown anatomy of the clitorus, but presents the fact that many facets of global society repress female sexuality. For example, much of today’s porn doesn’t show a healthy give and take of pleasure. The focus is on pleasuring the man while he’s doing the woman a favor, if he even stimulates her at all.

There is also this strange sexual obsession with hurting or demoralizing women in porn as well.
Another facet is the disgusting practice of excision (aka female circumcision) around the world. This ritual has no health benefits at all and is simply harmful to the women being mutilated. The purpose is to either make women unable to enjoy sex or to make it possible for communities to know weather or not a woman has had sex while shaming her for having natural sexual urges.

People,
we live in a special time and place where women are empowered in ways
never before seen in history. Frankly, that’s overdue. It is time to get
out this age of ignorance and female degradation and evolve into a more
loving and equal society for all.

Sex should be a wonderful exchange of love
and pleasure between two people. If you truly care and respect the
person you’re with, why not find out every way possible to make them
happy?
