Skyline Dance Departments brings you more shows for fall

It’s the second week of Fall and already the Skyline College Dance Department is ready for the upcoming semester. Talking with Amber Steele, the Assistant Professor of Dance and Kinesiology here at Skyline College, she explained the upcoming events that the department has planned for the semester so far for now. Professor Steele pointed out that additional shows and performances that haven’t been finalized yet.

Event: Skyline College on Dance Festival

Date: Saturday, September 19th

Description: the event will feature classes in Hip-Hop, contemporary, tap dancing, Tahitian, Salsa/Rueda, social dancing, and more for anyone who is taking part in the day events. A late lunch is including for anyone is going and the workshops will be repeated allowing students and members of the community to take part.

The Hip-Hop class will be led by Micaya, founder of SF Hip-Hop Fancefest B-Boying.

The Salsa dance will be led by Joan Walton.

The Salsa-Rueda will be led by Heike Mansel.

The Tap Dancing will be led by Gary Ferguson.

The Modren Hip-Hop Fusion class will be led by Joslynn Mathis.

The Contemporary will be led by Assistant Professor Amber Steele.

To close the day events, as everyone shows off what they learned during the day’s workshops. This is the second year that the Dance Festival is been held here at Skyline College; the first took place last year on Sept. 27.

 

Event: Skyline Performing Arts Showcase on

Date: Saturday, November 14th at 7:30pm

Location: The Skyline College Theater, Skyline College

 

The event will see the Skyline College Band and the Jazz Band each directed by Instructor Zachary Bruno. The Skyline Concert Choir and day vocal class will also be taking part in the event, in addition to dances from the dance classes here on campus led by Assistant Professor Amber Steele, spoken word, and additional performances from the student body.

Date: Friday, December 4th, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets: $15 at the door, $10 in advance/special rate/student ID, and $5 for children under 12 years old.

 

This event will feature Hip-Hop, contemporary, jazz, musical, and special guest performers from the Millbrae Dance Academy, College of San Mateo, and Mercy H.S Burlingame, Capuchino High School, and addition performers that has yet to be fully determined.
