The Associated Students of Skyline College ASSC accomplished their beginning of the semester goal of making sure all students had a smooth transition back into the school year.
ASSC President William Oo said that the semester started off good and that it mainly consisted of helping new students find their way into the Skyline community and getting back into their usual routine of setting up events.
ASSC Vice President Jarred Ramos said that it felt good getting back into the swing of things and interacting with the new students.
“Its always cool to see returning faces and also a lot of new faces,” Ramos said.
ASSC started off the beginning of the semester by hosting an event called Brews and Donuts where they set a booth at the open area in front of Building 6 and handed out donuts and coffee to students, as a way to get to know them, and help them out if it was their first time at Skyline.
ASSC also hosted multiple resource fairs and had a vision board workshop where students could create their own vision boards to help themselves stay focused on their goals for the semester.
Ramos said that they always hold resource fairs at the start of the semesters because they want new students to know where to locate resources that could help them. Ramos added that he remembers his first visit to Skyline and knows the struggle of freshman students, so he does his best to make them feel at home.
On Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 29, ASSC will also hold a club rush in Building 6, which gives clubs a chance to advertise their club in hopes of gaining new members.
Although there has not been any changes in ASSC leadership since the end of the fall 2025 semester, students looking to join can run for the 2026 elections and be a part of the organization next semester in the fall.
“We’re focusing this semester on making sure that folks know that there’s elections and getting our name out there so that if folks are interested then they can sign up right away,” Ramos said.
Ramos added that the election packets should be ready to be passed out in February. These elections will then determine who will take over Oo and Ramos’s spots.
Still, before Oo finishes his last semester though, he said his last goal is that he wants to leave a lasting impression with the Skyline community. He said he values the connections he has made with ASSC and that they have made him a better student.
“I think having that connection with people is really profound and great because it really helps not just personally, but with what you do moving forward,” Oo said.
