The Skyline Women’s Badminton team will be starting their first preseason game on March 15. During one of their practices, the amount of effort and commitment put into this sport is profoundly apparent. There are a total of six players currently on the team, but Head Coach Jan Fosberg says that there is still room for more.
“You can play with six, but it’s best to have a few more than that so everybody doesn’t have to play both singles and doubles,” Fosberg said. “And we can have up to twelve playing at a time.”
Fosberg has started teaching the team the basic skills of badminton, such as proper footwork and getting everyone on the same page.
The talent level of the team is based on high school experience, but all the team members are first timers for a college team. They’re just getting used to the college game. The top four players out of the team are “pretty solid” and work well with the other two players with a little less experience.
Fosberg has been coaching badminton for 11 seasons, making this one her twelfth.
When asked about her experience here at Skyline as a coach, she said, “I like it here; the athletes are very nice and coachable. It’s a lot of fun. And I’m looking forward to working with this new, young team.”
