Students and staff wait for the all clear during morning classes.

A false fire alarm interrupted morning classes this Monday, August 26.

The alarm notified students and faculty at approximately 9 am and it caused an evacuation of buildings 7 and 8.

Instructor Leigh Anne Shaw was stopping students who were attempting to make it to their classes. She was in her office in building 8 when she heard the siren, stating that it was faint she assumed it was a situation occurring in building 7.

Division assistant, Angelica Gorostiza, confirmed around 9:20 am that the San Bruno Fire Department had entered the building and were investigating.

Minutes later fire fighters went into the building to reset the alarm. The alarm compromised was in room 7314.

Fire Department Captain Campos cited issues with the alarm’s heat deck, being either a buildup of dust or a defect.

The alarm defectively rang out a second time during classes on Monday, interrupting students at around 12:30 pm.

“We’re gonna look at it and inspect it,” said Campos. “In order to prevent this from happening again we need to service it.”
