Turn on your streaming platforms, because a new winter “The Summer I Turned Pretty” love triangle, “Finding Her Edge,” has begun and will keep you invested until the end.
The series was adapted from the novel by Author Jennifer Iacopelli, and written and directed by Shamim Sarif, Jacqueline Pepall, Shelley Scarrow, Sabrina Sherif, and Jeff Norton, who is also the showrunner. The story follows Adriana Russo, played by Madelyn Keys, and her family as they try not to lose their skating rink. Adriana decides that she needs to compete to keep her family’s ice rink open, so she finds a new skating partner: Brayden Elliott, a well-known skater but with a bad reputation, played by Cale Ambrozic. They fake a relationship until the championship to help win sponsorships, but conflicts of feelings get in the way, making it hard to choose between her old figure skating partner and ex-boyfriend Freddie O’Connell, played by Olly Atkins, or her new partner at the end of the series, leaving a cliffhanger about how it will work between them as figure skating partners on the same team.
The series stands out in the sports drama genre, offering a storyline that features competition, a love triangle, and family tension. It has a mix of finding who you want to be outside of figure skating, drama, and a unique setting compared to other shows. The series centers on a steamy love triangle in competitive figure skating, with the characters developing chemistry throughout.
The characters played by Keys, Ambrozic, and Atkins were portrayed very well, coming to life in each of their stories and having great chemistry together. Keys and Ambrozic show how real their characters are on screen through the chemistry they share throughout the series. As the leading actress, Keys is amazing with her ability to make the character strong, mature, and know what she wants for herself. Ambrozic and Atkins are also amazing, bringing their characters to life and showing different sides of each of their perspectives.
The series starts slowly, but it is worth sticking with because it picks up later. The best part of the series is definitely the different figure skating dances that all the characters, as well as the stunt doubles portraying them, performed on and off ice. Another great part is the scene when the sisters were dancing for the honor of their mother, which is incredible with the choreography, costumes, wings, and music.
If you’re looking for a young adult show, this is the place. “Finding Her Edge” just renewed for a second season and deserves many more. It is well done and worth a binge-watch over the weekend.
