Once October rolls around, all anyone really has on their mind is the upcoming holidays. Everyone loves a reason to party, right? But the holiday I’m least looking forward to is Halloween.
It is one day to dress up and be someone different, but it just makes me reminisce about when I was young enough to go trick-or-treating.
Now if you walk up to someone’s door in a shabby ghost costume, you look like you’re invading on a child’s fun time.
But thankfully, Thanksgiving comes up afterwards, then the train picks up speed with the Christmas season. Undoubtedly, like many, my favorite holidays are the ones with the absolute best food, the homemade mashed potatoes, one-of-a-kind dishes, the roasts, and of course the desserts, the best part. But generally speaking, I’m a sucker for the holiday spirit.
Put up a well decorated Christmas tree, a wreath and some decorations and I’m in a good mood for the rest of the month.
Though it is cliché, I also must say I love spending time with my whole family as we feast like animals and talk up a storm for hours.
Surprisingly, the gift giving is almost irrelevant to me now. As I get older, I find myself asking for less on Christmas because there’s really nothing I want anymore, or really anything that I can’t get for myself.
I think it’s really just about enjoying yourself though, regardless of what takes place and what you or your family does.
New Years, for instance, is a holiday that truly is about you – your resolutions. I love New Years because it’s the ultimate time to party, everyone loves to end the year big, and open a new one even bigger.
Anyone who doesn’t love New Years, or holidays in general, you’re probably not celebrating properly.
