Open through October 3, the Skyline Gallery will be presenting “Technopia”, a collection of art pieces designed to bring together the concepts of “Technology” and “Perfection”. 

The artists featured in the show provide a perspective on technology, blending together aspects of the technological advancements of the 20th century with the out of the box perspectives of the artists of this time.

Robert Geshlider works in 3-D printing technology.  Using a computer program called Solidworks; he used 2-Dimentional sketches which can be fleshed out to create 3-Dimentional images.  Pieces are constructed using a 3-D printer and the images are printed onto repetitive layers of gypsum plaster.  While Geshlider has many pieces on display two in particular, “Troll”, as well as “Birdfoot” can both be viewed as both 2-D drawings, and 3-Dimentional sculptures.

John Huffman’s’ works include the use of C-Prints and Cibachrome Prints to display images of vivid color and depth, using subjects such as lotus flowers his work brings a serene peacefulness to a medium that otherwise feels futuristic.

Therese Lahaie brings to the gallery an interesting combination of kinetics and photography. Through use of glass, metal, light, and various mechanics Lahaie produces pieces of art that depict an ever changing flow of light and shadow. 

Tanya Lin Jaffe is a former Skyline student who brings work in the medium of digital and film photography, through use of X-Ray machines and Photoshop as well as considerably good use of light and shadow; she produces images of considerable depth. 

Andrew Werby brings a sculptural take on this futurist theme, bringing into his work the use of 2-D and 3-D scanners, computer controlled carving devices, as well as 3-D printers to create natural images with a distinctly technological feel behind them.

Paul Birdenbauh, Art Gallery Coordinator at Skyline College is hosting the Gallery showcase opened August 26 and will continue to run through the beginning of October.  The artists’ reception for the gallery exhibit will be held on September 10 at the Gallery Theater, located in Building 1, from 5:30-7:30 – a perfect opportunity to meet and greet the artists. 

When asked if he had anything special planned for the reception, Birdenbauh stated, “[Robert Geshlider], who works in 3-D technology will have access to one of those machines, so there will be a demonstration on how three-dimentional art pieces are printed.”
