We’ve heard plenty of stories of school shootings. And we all look at the news, and think about how tragic it must be.
But this one hit pretty close to home. In fact, it hit right at home. It’s a very different situation to be hearing about something that happened across the country and to have it happen right on the campus of your own school.
But as startling as the events of Wednesday were, we at The Skyline View are thankful for the fact that it could have been much, much, much worse.
The victim of the shooting was non-fatally wounded, and although we can’t find out more than that, we are happy for him and his family that his wounds were not more severe.
It is always a tragedy when someone is taken from our lives unexpectedly, and as journalists we may often be placed in positions where we witness that tragedy firsthand. We are glad that although the victim was injured, his family and friends were spared from an untimely loss.
We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the San Bruno Police Department, as well as every other officer and faculty member that may have been on the scene, working to ensure our safety.
It is through their efforts that we may continue to feel secure on our school campus even after a crisis such as this, and we at The Skyline View would like to make it known to everyone who helped safeguard the 3,000 lives on campus that day that their efforts could not be more appreciated.
From all of us at The Skyline View, stay safe.
