On Saturday March 7th, the Lady Trojans played the number one ranked City College of San Francisco Rams in a playoff game to determine who will go on to the elite 8 tournament for the 2009/2009 Women’s Basketball state playoffs.
City College and the Lady Trojans played each other two times this season with the rams winning both times. Once at home and another here at skyline, so the lady Trojans went into Saturday’s game with one thing on their minds; WIN!
“Third time’s a charm” Laura Zasly, guard for the Lady Trojans said in a recent interview.
That was the mind set on the whole entire roster for the lady Trojans had. They were ready to go into San Francisco and get the win!
The game started off with Skyline gaining the ball. Both teams were playing hard defense and scoring points. When every Skyline scores two points, city would score two points, when ever skyline made a 3-point shot, city would make a 3-point shot. Both teams did really well making their fast break points.
It was a game that everyone; coaches, players, and even people in the crowed got into. Despite the hard defense that the lady Trojans were playing, they got into foul trouble really early in the game. At one point the lady Trojans had seven fouls and the lady rams only had 3, which meant every foul that the lady Trojans did, the rams had a chance to go to the line and shoot, which was one of the difference makers for the game. At the end of the 1st half, the lady rams was up 34-27.
The 2nd half started off with the lady rams playing hard defense. They got a lot of steals and made the lady rams miss a lot of buckets. They also started making a lot of shots. At one point with 11:32 left in the game, the lady Trojans tied the game 47-47. But with the loud crowd at City College, it was really hard for the lady Trojans to keep and gain that momentum that they had.
The crowed at city started yelling “defense” so that their lady rams can get back into the game, and that helped them do just that. The Lady Rams came on after a time out with an 11-2 run. Every time that the lady Trojans got the ball, they had to turn it right back over; rather if it was because of turnovers, or if it was because the referees from that game called every bad play you could name.
Whatever the case was, it really messed up the lady Trojans’ rhythm. With 2 minuets to go, the lady Trojans saw their season come to an end. The buzzer went off and the game was over. A lot of cheers from the crowed went on for the lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans’ season was over. The final score of the game: The Lady Rams 72-The Lady Trojans 59.
“Skyline College played very hard” a parent of the City College Lady rams said “I went to all of the games vs. Skyline College, and I think that this was one of the best games that I have seen them play in a very long time”
