Before Skyline’s meeting with Foothill on February 14, 2009 Head Coach Justin Piergrossi told his team at practice that even though they had beaten Foothill by 20 points the first time the two teams met, that they had better come to play because he knew that they were not going to lay down and let Skyline have another easily win. Piergrossi was right the Owls of Foothill came to play outscoring the Trojans by more than 20 points in the first half, though a few great defensive plays by 6’4″ forward Malik Williams (41) kept the crowd chanting defense for Skyline. At the half the players entered locker room with their heads hanging and slightly dejected after digging themselves into a hole at home to a team that had won against on the road. The Trojans came out of the locker room and played the beginning of the second half with new fire and energy, sparking a come back fueled by Shawn Echols (15) the sophomore guard from Mill’s High School. Echols threw his body both at defenders when attacking the basket and at the crowd; diving for loose balls to keep the play alive. However despite the comeback surge on offence they still could not stop Foothill on the defensive end of the court and the Owls matched the Trojans score for score. In the end Skyline could not make a come back and the game ended with Foothill victorious 72-57.
