Because our state is hurting financially, changes need to be made. Unfortunately, some people will have to be hurt in the process. In this case, as many as 10,000 students will have to suffer as they will be turned away from the California State Universities in the 2009-2010 academic year. The majority of Skyline students are hoping to one day transfer to one of these schools, and it’s a shame that more students than usual will have to be turned down. But high school graduates will suffer the most, because they are lowest priority in the application process. Transfers are second priority, just under current CSU students. The best we can do is to make sure we meet the CSU requirements while here at Skyline, completing them to the best of our abilities. Students who haven’t taken these steps will most likely be turned down, but students with the requirements and decent grades to go along with them will have a much better chance of being accepted to their school of choice. It’s a shame that so many students must be denied admission. Students who have been working hard to transfer may miss out on their opportunity, not due to lack of effort but solely because of the poor state of California’s budget. Let’s hope it doesn’t last long. Everyone should be allowed the educational opportunities they’ve worked hard for.
