A Skyline student was arrested for murder on Oct. 29, after police were called to the scene, in South San Francisco.
Neil Chand, 19, a Skyline student, was arrested on murder, conspiracy, and narcotics possession according to South San Francisco Police Department spokeswoman Joni Lee.
Chand was picked up at a gas station in the Westborough area hours after police responded to calls of “a man lying in the middle of the street motionless,” according to Lee.
The victim, 21-year-old Shivnesh Reddy, had a single gunshot wound to the chest and was dead when officers arrived on the scene, Lee said.
Chand was arrested after police were able to track down the license plate of a Honda given by a witness, who reported a suspicious-looking vehicle in the area during the time of the shooting.
Lee was unable to go into specifics regarding the motives behind the killing citing the investigation, but said that there was evidence of a drug deal gone bad.
“There’s not much I can say other than they purposely met for a drug transaction which turned into an argument,” Lee said. “The victim was shot, but he managed to get himself out of the car before he [Chand] drove off.”
According to Lee, Chand was arrested after implicating himself in the murder.
“He [Chand] has been cooperative with us,” Lee said. “He has told us he was friends with the victim [Reddy].”
Chand, who faces charges on murder as well as possession of marijuana, and conspiracy, has been arrested along with four other people, according to Lee.
Jimmy Nabong, 17, of San Francisco, has been arrested for the murder and is being charged as an adult. Two other suspects that were arrested have since been released pending further investigation, but Lee says they will “probably be arrested again.”
According to Lee, Chand has future court dates, but “doesn’t know them yet.”
