This is how a comic-based video game should be done.
Spider-man: Web of Shadows is not based off of a cheesy Hollywood movie plot. Not only does it have an original story, but the choices you make throughout the game affect the ending.
At different points you are given red and black suit choices and both lead to very different outcomes. At one point I left Mary Jane for The Black Cat. Does it get any better than that?
With the exceptions of a few modifications not much has changed in terms of game play. For starters, you can switch between the red costume and the symbiotic black suit when ever you want. Each suit has its own unique set of combos and special moves. Add that to the fact that you can change suit mid combo, you have a recipe for some amazing beat downs.
Aside from the ability to change costumes, the combat system is pretty much the same as its predecessors. There have however been a few modifications, mostly focusing on aerial combat. It was important to the developers that you be able to fight enemies on the ground, walls and of course in the air. In any case, fighting and swinging as Spider-Man has never been smoother.
The heads up display contains an active combo meter. The higher the combo the more experience you get when defeating enemies. This experience is used to upgrade your combos and special moves for each costume. To upgrade your health bar and swing speed you simply just look for collectibles around the city. They’re also much more visible than in any of the other games.Hands down the best part of the game is the cameos from other heroes and villains. Furthermore, you can summon most of them to fight at your side. Depending whether or not you have more black or red suit points you can select help from Black Cat, Electro, Rhino, Vulture, Wolverine, Luke Cage and Moon Knight.
If you are a Spidey fan then this is a game for you. Everything from the plot to the gameplay is riches for us fans. This is a game for “True Believers.”
