Ever since I saw “Mallrats,” Kevin Smith has been my favorite director. Time and time again his over the top comedy has served as a delight to my movie goers’ appetite.
For his newest project, “Zach and Miri Make a Porno,” Smith tapped one of Hollywood’s newest breakout stars, Seth Rogen.
“Zach and Miri Make a Porno” follows the lives of best friends Zach (Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks). After months of unpaid bills Zach and Miri return home from a high school reunion to find that their utilities have all been shut off. Of course they take the obvious solution to this problem and decide to make a porno to pay the bills.
After eventually putting together a cast and crew the group is ready to begin filming. Of course, they wish it were that easy.
Though this movie is about making porn, there is still a lot more to it. Under the surface it’s a love story between two friends that have never really entertained the idea of being together. Still, the show must go on so they have to deal with those issues while working together to make their porno.
This is definitely not a movie for kids. In fact, Smith had to fight to remove the NC 17 rating it originally held. Sure enough though, he pulled it off.
With a great supporting cast including Smith regulars Jeff Anderson and Jason Mewes, prepare yourself for non stop, raunchy, comedy. Smith and Rogen are a comical dream team. We can only hope to see them work together on more movies.
