You don’t have to be a pothead to enjoy Showtime’s original hit series, “Weeds.” After wrapping up season four last week with the finale, fans got a glimpse of where season five will be headed.
The series premiered in the summer of 2005. “Weeds” follows the life of widowed parent, Nancy Botwin, as she struggles to raise her children, Shane and Silas, with the aid of their uncle, Andy. With no other way to support her family she resorts to selling marijuana. That was Season one. Since then the series has drastically changed in scope.
At the start of season four Nancy has left her home town of Agrestic. The wildfires, a big issue in Southern California during the time of season three’s finale, perfectly covered for her burning down her own house. This allowed Nancy to move away to a new town and start over with her family. Unfortunately, this move left a lot of series regulars behind, but not all.
Little does Nancy know, she is being hunted by the D.E.A. However, this is wrapped up rather quickly. As the season progresses we see Nancy, now drug trafficking across the border, begin to learn the consequences of her crimes. However, dating the drug lord and Mayor of Mexico, Esteban, she is in way too deep to back out. The season ends with a jaw dropping moment that leaves us all in shock. Of all the shows I watch, none have cliff hangers like “Weeds” does.
Season four was great. With such a change in the show’s direction fans wondered how season four would hold up. However, I think it’s by far the best season yet. It is every bit as drama filled as the previous seasons, yet it’s funnier then all of them put together. The ending to the fourth season let’s us know the show’s writers have a plan. If it’s anything like the previous seasons it’s bound to be a hit.
