The Financial Aid office is sponsoring a week of events that are happening on campus to make students aware of the opportunities offered to them to get money for school. This is a part of Financial Awareness week, which the school is doing because April is financial awareness month. “You’d be surprised about who qualifies,” Maria Escobar, EOPS/C.A.R.E./Calworks financial aid director said.Escobar said that it depends on the income from parents and yourself, and even if you cannot get financial aid, you can get a fee waiver. It is still not too late to apply for financial aid for this semester, and definitely not for next semester.”This week is for any students who have not applied for financial aid,” Meyline Benaurides, student ambassador said. “Students who sign up and complete the FAFSA application between now and May 19 will be entered in a drawing to win a Wii.”The Financial Aid office also has “FAFSA Fridays,” which is when they are available to help students who need help to fill out the forms. They are in room 2122 from 1-3 every Friday, although they will make appointments if the time doesn’t work for students.
