As the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech Massacre approaches people will be remembering the victims of all school shootings. Some people will also be used to protest current gun control laws.
There will be about 100 demonstrations in nearly every state, nine of which are being held in California, according to Kay Holmen, the California chapter president of Bradycampaign.com.
The protests will have 32 people lying on the ground for three minutes.
The 32 is for the victims of the Virginia Tech Massacre, and the three minute time period is a representation of the amount of time it took for the shooter to purchase the guns that were used in the attack.
One of these protests is occuring on Wed. April 16, 2008, at CSM outside of the library, at 12 p.m.
“This is not a Republican or Democrat thing, it is not a conservative or liberal thing, this is the right to life,” said Chris Corgas, 19, lead speaker at the CSM demonstration.
Corgas has been widely involved in planning the event, with the help of people from www.bradycampaign.org, and www.protesteasyguns.com. Both of these websites are dedicated to spreading the word about the need for stronger gun control laws.
“This also happens to be victims awareness week, and the ten year anniversary of the Columbine shootings,” Holmen said. “Life is too precious to have something like this happening so often, people are just becoming too desensitized.”
