It takes a lot more than a hoodie that reads “Paramore is a band” to convince people that they are more than just a one-woman show.
What it takes is full band interaction with the spotlight on each member of the band, which Paramore showed very little of during their 12-song set at the San Jose State Event Center on April 9.
From the moment the Grammy-nominated pop-punk band walked on stage, it was clear that frontwoman Hayley Williams was the star of the show, as her edgy attitude outshined the rest of the band.
As co-headliners with Jimmy Eat World, Paramore had to prove themselves worthy enough to grace the same stage alongside one of the most respectable bands in today’s modern rock scene.
Williams proved that she is one of the best female vocalists in today’s mainstream rock, not only by being the sole entertainer of the band, but by engaging the crowd to participate as she led thousands of fans to sing along to arena-rock anthems such as their breakthrough single “Misery Business.”
The set list featured a decent mixture of songs from both All We Know Is Falling and Riot!, including the semi-ballad “When It Rains,” which featured Williams on keyboards and proved that they are more than just another generic pop-punk band.
Although Williams and company left the stage with fans begging for more, their performance was nothing more than a warm-up for the band that Paramore considers to be one of their biggest influences, Jimmy Eat World.
