Some people wouldn’t consider archery to be a real sport, however it’s included in U.S. Olympic Games and is taken very seriously as a national pastime. There are many archery tournaments and competitions that are held.
There are also magazines that are contributed to the art of archery. According to usarchery.org, archery is one of the oldest arts that are still used today. The crossbow is also the most widely used weapon ever recorded in history.
Archery is offered at Skyline as a physical education class. This semester, the class is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:10-12:25. The instructor is Jan D. Fosberg. The class happens down by the sports medicine building, where they set up targets on large haystacks. The class is worth 1 unit, however it’s perfect for students that hate doing a lot of physical activity. The course is offered for both intermediate and beginner archers.

What is your favorite part of the class? It’s a community field.
Will you take the class again or use archery on your own time?I probably won’t have enough time to take the class again. I’ll probably continue doing archery though. I actually bought my own equipment this semester, so I definitely will.
What have you learned from taking this course?I’ve learned more self-respect.

What are the reasons you joined archery?Well I needed a P.E. class for requirements. I found out about this class from a friend. Archery seemed really fun to me and I just wanted to try something new.
What’s your favorite part of the class?Definitely shooting, shooting the target getting to see what score you get. It lets you see if you’re getting better or not.
Have you learned anything new from this course?A lot of things. For one thing, archery is more than what it seems, there’s a lot more to it then just the bow and the arrow. There is actually a technique that goes with and a lot of different equipment other than those two items. I’ve taken up buying my own equipment and practicing at Pacific Archery in Daly City, they have a target range there to practice on.
What will you use archery for in the future?Just as a hobby, something to do on my free time. Basically for fun.
Do you think you’ll take the class again?Yeah, I’d love to take it again. The intermediate class would be fun.
