The hard fought battle between conference powerhouses was decided in a grueling match of wits between the Skyline Trojans and the Las Positas Hawks. Both teams entered the matchup with similar records with the Trojans standing at a respectable 14-11 and the Hawks closely behind at 12-13. It’s clear that both teams entered ready and eager to prove their dominance in the division, hoping to make examples of one another. In the game’s earlier minutes both teams began pressing the ball on both ends of the floor. And although the Hawks were able to fend off the early barrage, soon after the Trojans found a way to convert on easy baskets. Early foul problems proved troublesome throughout the first half, reaching nearly a combined 13 team fouls before the start of the second half. It seemed not a factor as both the Hawks and the Trojans were unable to capitalize on many of the game’s free throws. But in the game’s closing minutes, Skyline proved to hit the ones necessary to secure the win.Able to control the ball on both ends of the court, the Trojans utilized their size and ability to convert rebounds into easily made baskets. Freshman forward Matt Fochtman was able to score an impressive 12 points in the first half which helped the Trojans begin a surge in the second half. Beginning with an 8-0 run and followed by a much needed time out from the Hawks, the Trojans seemed poised for victory. Though moment’s later the flame sizzled. A series of hard fouls followed by a technical foul on Skyline for excessive roughness gave Las Positas the fuel they needed to get themselves back in the game, and after 12 minutes of play in the second half the score stood Skyline 53, Las Positas 48 after trailing by double digits. In the end the Trojans prevailed as they soared passed the Hawks with the final score standing at Skyline 77, Las Positas 69; a close match in the team’s last matchup.
