The time for goodbyes is upon us. Fading away are the sounds of countless calls accompanied by endless blaring whistles dictating every action of the game. We bid farewell to players and teams alike as we reflect positively on both the men’s and women’s soccer seasons.
Both seasons began with high hopes as they attempted to build off of last season’s intensity. Achieving a playoff birth and ultimately winning it were simple goals that fueled each team as they strived to be the best, yet sadly both teams fell just short of reaching the playoffs.
The men’s team ended their season on an amazing winning streak. Winning three and tying in their last push towards the playoffs they end the season with a record of 9-9-3. While the miss of the playoffs was only the second unseated birth in the last five years for the men’s team, ending on such a high note gives hope and makes way for many other births to soon follow.
While the lady Trojans season took off like a rocket, nearing the brink of attaining a top ranking in their division they just barely missed, needing key wins to break their way into the playoffs this year. Ending the season in a tie with rivals Chabot College, the momentum that carried throughout the entire year still held steam towards the very last section.
Attending games this season as not only a writer but as a fan was truly a pleasure. The pride and competitiveness on both ends of the field should set precedence for all other sports alike. Though no one likes to end their rise to glory with defeat, it’s safe to say that it can only go up from here as we cheer on our other teams with the same intensity and animosity as we’ve shown both our men’s and women’s soccer teams.
