Welcome to Skyline College! It’s a new semester for returning students and a brand new school year for newly graduated high school students. So for those who do not know me, I am the Advice Nerd. The objective of this column is to send me a letter with a question of interest to you and fellow students. It could be about anything! My job is to do my best to answer that question with respect, dignity, and certainty. However, since it is the beginning of a new semester I didn’t receive any letters. So this advice nerd is going to be all about welcoming you to Skyline College!Should I Stay In a Class I Don’t Like? When you register for a class you want to take but you end up not liking it, don’t be afraid to drop it. It’s not high school. You can drop the class before it affects your GPA. So don’t wait it out and see what happens. If you already know it’s not going to work, then don’t do it. I’m all alone All your friends are at City College and you are here all by your lonesome self. Don’t sit down in a corner thinking nobody is as cool as you and your missing friends. Get up and talk to people you don’t know. Join a club and share your interests. No one will bite you, and when they do, it’s a good thing!Where Am I?So you don’t know where to go, what classes to take, and so on. Go grab a map of the school if you still get lost or ask someone around you for help. Most likely they won’t be a dick and they will assist you in a polite manner. Still don’t know what classes to take? Go to the administration office and sign up to have an appointment with a guidance counselor. They can help choose the classes that you need in order to transfer or get that AA degree. These three pieces are mostly pet peeves every student has dealt with at least once in their lifetime at Skyline College. If you have more question about a different pet peeve, send me an email to [email protected], make sure you put advice nerd in the subject. So this is the advice nerd Liezl Laurel saying buh-bye and welcome to Skyline!
