Fernando Dulay, at the age of 73 is wise, strong, filled with spiritual insight, a survivor of World War II, and most importantly he’s one of us.
Born July 26, 1933 in Sacramento, Dulay grew up and became an OB gynecologist, a career he held for thirty years. He went to community college and got his medical degree in Chicago. Like many others he was told to go to school and have a good career afterward. Dulay never really took the classes he wanted but instead took the classes he needed to progress.
“When I went to college I didn’t enjoy it.” Dulay said.
Dulay promised he would return to community college and take the courses he found interesting. Now he takes up Anthropology, critical thinking, Spanish, English, and spinning.
At his age, Dulay can out spin many people. He is a strong believer that to live long you must be healthy.
Still at school and hard at work, many wonder why he doesn’t just retire and relax at home. Why does he even still go to school?
“Education is a life long process,” he said. “Knowledge is never wasted.”
He believes no matter how old we get we will always learn something new. Everything constantly changes, hopefully for the better.
Times have changed and so has the generation, Dulay believes one of the things wrong with the new generation is that too many kids are putting focus on having a relationship then realizing life is about them and them alone. Many students need to stop for a moment and reflect on their lives. Through all his years on earth, Dulay believes one thing can help many.
Philosophy.
To question your life and to question why you are here will help you learn more about yourself than anything else.
Fernando Dulay, a man filled with insight and life’s learning is here with us at Skyline. We should look to him as an example of what we should have done and what we should be doing.
