On March 23 the four mutated, giant, and green, ninja butt kicking, pizza loving, turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo will all return to the big screen. Not since1990 has the Ninja Turtles broke out with their first movie that made a success with the fans, then in 1991 they came with “TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze”, and their last in 1993 with “TMNT III”. Fans loved them, people wanted more of them, and they were a hit. Cartoons were made and were fun watching, but like most cartoons, they would come and go. As the new generations of kids came along with new “better” cartoons out, it seemed that the time of the Ninja Turtles saga was over.
It has been 14 years since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were last seen in the theaters. Now, 2007 looks like the year that the Turtles get reunited again, but with a different appearance. Unlike the past three movies, where the Turtles were attired in realistic robotic costumes and performing with real actors, the director of the new TMNT, Kevin Munroe, is changing the Turtles by unveiling them through technology with computer graphics. By doing this people will hear the turtles with animated voices from actors. Actors such as Chris Evans (Human Torch of Fantastic 4) who will be Casey Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) who will be the voice of April O’Neal, Patrick Stewart ( Star trek) as the main Antagonist Max Winters, and last but not least Laurence Fishburne as the narrator will be the voices of these characters. Though it’s a different perspective and approach, hopefully the fans will learn to appreciate how they are represented.
As the previous movies left off getting rid of their arch enemy The Shredder and his armies of the Foot, the Turtles now have found themselves isolated and confused within each other and no longer having the desire to fight. Master Splinter; yes, the Master Rat Sensei has decided that the turtles are in need of reuniting as their new enemy, a Tech industrialist Max Winters who goes mad after being fired by his company, begins to gather and revive ancient monsters and once again New York City is in danger. The Turtles main purpose; kick butt and eat pizza all day.
Either you feel like being a leader with Leonardo, acting tough with Raphael, being the smartest with Donatello, or being hardheaded with Michelangelo. We will always be a fan of the Turtles and we can never forget them as they’ve impacted us during our younger years. They’ve made their mark by becoming huge pop culture icons. We’ll have a little bit of “turtle power!” in us. All in all the Ninja Turtles are back and all fans should love it. Just like the Turtles themselves said “God I LOVE being a Turtle”.
