Throw in men with chiseled abs, anorexic women, and tons of blood and gore and what do you get? Quite possibly one of the best movies this year! “300” is a movie based on the graphic comic by Frank Miller derived on the Greek history of King Leonidas of Sparta and his 300 warriors that fought against millions of Persians.
If you’ve watched Sin City, the graphics are almost the same with the slow motion actions and one colored theme. Like Sin City, the body and carnage is glorified and detailed. The costumes may not actually look like what they really wore but they wanted them to have a more artistic statement. The battle scenes are filled with so much blood it makes you cringe in you seat. Not only is the battle bloody, it is well choreographed making it almost look like a piece of art with each movement. Each time you watch them fight you can feel their adrenaline pump through their veins as if it was your own.
The only drawbacks to this movie are the heavily exaggerated characters. Some of the Persians looks like monsters straight of a horror movie. Also Xerxes, the Persian God-King, is made to look like a giant with many feminine qualities. Even though the movie exaggerates some of the characters, it doesn’t matter. It gives the movie a darker effect. The underline tone is how great Spartans fought against beasts that were believed to be immortal.
The movie is based on actual events, but don’t think it to be too accurate, the movie has some historical flaws, but nonetheless it is still a great movie.
When you walk out of the movie theatre after watching “300” your soul may seem on fire, but it’s the kind of burn that makes you feel all warm and blood happy inside.
