Hello everyone, let me first start by introducing myself, I am Jesus Hills the new editor in chief of the Skyline View. Like my predecessors, this will be my bi-weekly column to you the general public, who choose to pick up this paper. Now down to business…
I come before you, with a request, a simple one, one that has been instilled in all of us since birth. Treat those around you, the way you want to be treated, and that means also treating this newspaper and its staff with respect. This newspaper, believe it or not, is productive and it has inspired change in the past, so don’t take it lightly.
We welcome anyone who comes to visit us at our new newsroom, sends us emails, or even give us a call; however I do request that you do it with some decorum. We appreciate criticism and pointing out our short comings, and when you write into us we will publish your letters, but when we feel harassed or insulted by people who try, that is where I put my foot down.
When people come into the newsroom with an agenda, it really does make me upset. I want to maintain a certain level of objectivity with the news we publish for you, because in this world there are so many newspapers that slant their news or attempt to create monopolies in the media. This paper is here as a factual voice for everyone on this campus. I make it a personal goal of mine to stay objective in the news stories that I write and I will not tolerate people that come to the newsroom and request to see advanced copies of an article, or to get a certain view in the newspaper without providing a balance to it or facts to back up this opinion as news.
I appreciate the interest in helping the newspaper, and helping us better the paper, but please when you talk to us remember the golden rule, treat us the way you expect us to treat you, don’t insult us or our intelligence.
