Artist : Third Eye BlindSong : “Blinded”Sounds like : a wonderful unapologetically commercial modern rock song by a wonderfully unapologetic local commercial modern rock group.by Jonathan Jay Lando Dipratana
CLICK HEREto be taken to a live video version because that was all I could find for this album. Out of the Vein is the latest album from the band most people only liked for the song “Semi-Charmed Life”. The album is great and everyone should give it a spin. The song in question is very much in the Third Eye Blind mold of being catchy and pop with loud guitars, excited incanting and anthemic choruses. Lyrically, I can connect it to my current romantic inklings and entanglements. The lines most resonant with me being the chorus, “When I see you/It’s like I’m staring down the sun/And I’m blinded/There’s nothing left to do/And still I see you.” A rocking good song from a rocking good album, give it a listen keeping in mind the album version is much better.
Artist: TrillvilleSong: Some CutSounds and Smells Like: Month-old vomit run over by a truck that just ran over a skunk by Syed Ali
If you love songs that are about rims, cars, partaking in drugs, drinking expensive liquor, degrading women, threatening to shoot people, and/or referring to your city’s area code as opposed to its actual name, then this is the perfect song for you. I absolutely despise everything about this song because there is nothing to like about it. The lyrics are extremely monotonous and uncreative, and the beat is that of a bed squeaking. I love hip-hop, but I’m disappointed in the direction that it’s headed towards. Seriously, I would rather search for Xenu and free it than listen to this piece of crap.
Artist: Velvet UndergroundSong: Run Run Run Sounds Like: Running from the man. by Shannon Elliot
If you ever wanted a song to listen to while running from the cops while totally intoxicated, then Run Run Run would be it. First released in 1967, this song is a 60’s freak out, rock classic with about 20 seconds worth of lyrics and 4 minutes of solos. And just as the solos start peaking, they fade away back into the song’s simple, steady rhythm. The song will leave you with the feeling of wanting to get totally blitz out of your mind…just make sure you’re ready to Run Run Run if you need to.
Artist: DJ EarwormSong: Fixing Up for a Love ConnectionSounds Like: “A heroic fix”by John Harrison
Combining the sounds of Frou Frou, Stereo MC’s, Madonna, and Dizzee Rascal, DJ Earworm makes a masterpiece out of music. Like a colorful mosaic, Fixing Up for a Love Connection includes elements of hip-hop, bad pop, and comes complete with an energetic cover of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero,” as performed by Dizzee Rascal. Throw Madonna’s “Justify My Love” in the mix and some rhymes by Stereo MC’s and you’ve got a very downloadable file. Like a beautiful train wreck, Fixing Up for a Love Connection is a track you can’t stop listening to.
Artist: Portraits of PastSong: Something less than intendedSounds like: A violent rendition of the Carol of the Bellsby
Piercing guitars face off with beautiful harmonic riffs. They build and build into a moment of refrain, but come crashing back into a blast beat and desperate screams. Both movingly melodic and thrashingly abrasive, this song drives forward into oblivion. Like many “screamo,” the guitars focus mostly on the high strings and complicated harmonies. The vocals come screeching through and though you can’t understand any of them, they’re supposed to convey some message about; relationships, love, hurt, pain, mistrust,…(insert something generally emo). Fantastic arrangement, truly classic “screamo,” literally, these guys broke up in ’95.
