Students, faculty and the community alike will have the opportunity to meet real writers at the fourth annual Women on Writing (W.O.W.) conference which will be held at Skyline College, on March 4, 2006.
W.O.W., an innovative reading and writing conference, will feature Janice Mirikitani, a highly motivational speaker and San Francisco’s second Poet Laureate. In addition to Mirikitani, other featured authors will be Rose Castillo Guilbault, author of “Farmworker’s Daughter,” Beth Lisick, writer and co-organizer for the “Porchlight Storytelling Series” and Ruthanne McCunn, author of “Thousand Pieces of Gold” and “Wooden Fish Songs.” More writers will also be in attendance sharing their experience and creativity.
There will be a variety of workshops at the event, such as “Poetry: Writing as Meditation,” “Out of this World: Science Fiction and Fantasy,” and “A Playwriting Workshop.” The W.O.W. Conference will be an opportunity to let creativity grow. Marijane Datson, creator and coordinator of W.O.W. said that there is no other women’s writing conference in the northern peninsula.
“There is a special kind of energy when women get together,” Datson said.
The schedule of events is fast paced, starting at 8:00 a.m. where registration and a continental breakfast will be provided. There will also be an onsite bookstore called “A Clean Well Lighted Place for Books,” where copies of the featured artists published works will be available for purchase.
