So its fall semester now, and you’ve signed up for all your classes. ‘What’s next on your to do list? It’s time to pay for all your units, books, and supplies. But wait a minute, you’re flat broke! What do you do now?
This is Get Your Fix, where your dilemmas are validated. Since Spring 2005, Get Your Fix has been striving to mend your problems and help you with whatever you need. My name is Liezl Laurel, and I’m at your service to get you going.
Let’s get down to business. You have no cash, no money in your checking account, and you’ve got cobwebs infesting your wallet. What are your options? What can you do?
The obvious choice is to apply for a full time job or a part time job. The career center on campus offers insight on off campus jobs. If going to the career center is not for your tastes you could check job information websites online for choices. Websites may not provide all the answers to any questions you could have. The best option is to ask your family and friends about any openings at retail stores, fast food places, restaurants, and other places. A job fair at school may also help you with your search.
So apply once you get the chance.
On campus, each department offers a variety of choices. If there are openings, the guidance counselors are looking for assistants to help them file papers. The bookstore, the library, and student ambassadors to help greet the students are also good choices. There are various job offers at school, which you could choose from.
What if you don’t have time for a job, what are your other options?
There is a Financial Aid program for disadvantaged students at Skyline. Financial aid helps you pay for your classes. So, if you need extra help, the financial aid department in building two is willing to supply you with answers to any questions that come to your mind. If you need more help then just tuition, the moment you qualify for BOGG, the board of governor’s grant, you apply for EOPS. BOGG is financial aid that waivers fees. EOPS, extended opportunity programs and services, could help even more with the offerings of book vouchers, and bus waivers. There are also scholarships you could still apply for. Financial aid services will definitely be a major help for disadvantaged students.
So, you don’t need financial aid? You just need cash right now.
Well, if you can’t wait to apply for a job or if you have a job and you can’t wait for the paycheck. Then perhaps there is only one solution for you. Borrow. Borrow money from a good friend or your family. Just be sure to pay them back, so if you’re in a jam again you’ll be safe to know there will be someone you could count on.
Everyone has issues with money, and we all know it’s hard to be straight up flat broke. What you do when you actually have money is save it. You shouldn’t be going around spending it like crazy, save for a real emergency. You’ll never know what is going to happen, its better to be safe then sorry.
Once again, this has been Get your fix with me Liezl Laurel your new best friend.
