You put it off to the very last minute. Now you are scared and begin to panic. What would make the nervous tension go away? You think of your options, and cheating sounds like the easiest way to go.
Cheating may seem to be an easy last resort when it comes to doing school work, but it’s not, especially if you want to go to a four-year university or any professional field.
Most people cheat for more than one reason. If you have ever considered cheating and option, get your fix and read on.
My piano teacher discussed the topic of cheating with me one time. After thinking about it for a while, I remembered I have been in classes where teachers have caught students cheating. Students find ways to make cheating easier through technology. For example, students use their graphing calculators to store formulas or notes on the test. And, since cell phones have become a popular trend in the last five years, some people cheat by text messaging the questions and answers to their friends. The old fashioned ways of cheating still run rampant too; once in a while when I take a test, I see people glancing over at my paper.
Come on! I know that I am not a perfect person, and perhaps I have cheated in the past, but for those who feel the need to cheat, especially in college, you have a lot more to lose than just a few points. You have your pride, dignity and even your intelligence to lose.
It is the end of the semester. If you have cheated within the last few months, think of what you got out of it. Nothing. Face value, you probably aced an exam or homework assignment, but did you truly learn anything on your own? Probably not.
In an environment like Skyline College, a student should have no excuse for cheating. Teachers have office hours for a reason. Those hours are for you to ask for help and get advice concerning homework. If not teachers, you have counselors and tutors as well. Counselors can guide you towards the direction you want to progress academically, and Skyline has free tutors who specialize in certain subjects, like English, math, science and even economics.
The old saying is true. “When you cheat, you only cheat yourself.” If you take information that is not yours and try to pass it off as your own, it just proves to show that you do not have what it takes to think on your own. In the long run, when you cheat, exams, homework and real-life work will only become harder.
Smart students challenge themselves to actually learn. And no matter how hard you struggle or work to get something done, imagine all the things you are learning. It will be you, not the person who cheats, that will succeed in the long run.
