A lot was at stake in the general election Nov. 2. To my delight, and to the delight of others like me, George W. Bush was re-elected as president of this great country. People flocked to the polls in record numbers all over America. The voter turnout of church-going Christians significantly increased.
Approximately 59 million people voted for President Bush, the most votes for a president in the history of the United States. He won both the popular vote and the electoral vote, something that hasn’t happened in quite some time. I believe this was a strong statement from Christians everywhere; we will not sit idly by while our moral and family values are attacked.
Christian values are constantly being attacked in America. The American Civil Liberties Union seemingly seeks to destroy all signs of Christianity in America. They are attempting to take our Christian faith out of every aspect of American life. The fact is, this country was founded on the Christian faith. The Bill of Rights was framed, in part, after the 10 Commandments. Our founding fathers made it clear that this country was founded on Christian values and although we would not establish a national religion, we would let our Christian values govern our lives while being tolerant of other religions.
Eleven states had marriage protection acts on their ballotswhich were overwhelmingly passed. Many national media outlets attributed the mass turnout to this very issue. Homosexuality is being pushed on people everywhere they go. Most of us, as Christians, are accepting of this type immoral activity, but do not want it thrown in our faces. We firmly believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. If it is redefined to include homosexual relationships, why should we stop there? I feel that if homosexual marriage was accepted, it would open a Pandora’s box of polygamy and other unacceptable relationships.
Here in California, we are a step behind in upholding Christian values. In San Francisco, a rogue, criminal mayor broke the law and made his own laws legalizing gay marriage. For now, this criminal has been stopped, but what’s next? When will these onslaughts of immoral acts being thrown in our faces stop? As Christians, I believe we need to step up and protect our morals and family values. We, as Christians, need to protect marriage here in California.
The “silent majority” of America has spoken at the polls. George W. Bush will remain as our president. Eleven states have protected marriage. Record numbers of Christians turned out to the polls to protect our moral fiber and family values we hold so dear.
Will the attack on Christians stop? I believe not. Only time will tell. For now, many of us who are Christians will rejoice in the victories at the polls!
