If you’ve been keeping up with the local beverage crazes going on as of late, then you might have noticed that Mountain Dew is going especially crazy. With two new forms of Mountain Dew being made available in the last two months, it’s almost impossible to know if the company is going through a midlife crisis, or just desperate to boost sales. Whatever the case, we here at The Skyline View have set out to determine which flavors are worth their while, and which are doomed to fail.
1. Mountain Dew: Code Red was definetly the favorite among the staff, bringing with it the sweet flavor of cherry mixed with a light citrus aspect. Leaving behind an aftertaste that is neither offensive, nor is it overly powerful. Having been introduced to the public a few years ago, it proved to us just why it’s still on top of the dew chain.
2. Coming in at a not-so-close second, the taste of original Mountain Dew remains just as classic as it is always has been, though it still seems that nobody can figure out exactly what it’s supposed to taste like.
3. As far as Mountain Dew is concerned, Pitch Black ranks at number three. However, as far as grape soda in general is concerned, this is almost blasphemy in our taste-test panel’s eyes. With the very faintest taste of grape in the mixture, this particular beverage gives off the distinct smell of Dimetapp, with the flavor of watered down grapes mixed with carbon water, and an aftertaste that leaves something to be desired. Only the mouthwash juice that is Baja Blast could be as disapointing as this.
4. Mountain Dew: Baja Blast ranked the lowest on our scoreboard by far. With a smell reminiscent of plastic and Listerine, its taste is watery with a mint candy feel to it and the aftertaste of flouride. All in all this ranks the lowest on the taste scale, however it is available only at Taco Bell, so you don’t have to worry about running into it in stores.
