After starting off the season strong, the Skyline Men’s soccer team did not qualify for the playoffs. After getting shut out by Foothill on Nov.7 0-4, their post-season hopes were killed.
“We definitely started out the season as a playoff contender but we weren’t able to sustain that level of play,” said Head Coach Danny Link.
Even though the team will finish the season with at least a .500 winning percentage, it will not be enough for a playoff bid. The team is 7-5-4 with just one more contest left against West Valley.
“This is really frustrating because we started off the season so strong and to have it end like this really hurts,” said halfback Ruben Salazar.
The team plays in a very competitive league with two of their opponents having national rankings.
“Even though our win total was more than our loss total I don’t think we convinced the playoff selection committee that we are a legitimate playoff team,” Link said. “We also had some ties that should have been wins.”
Even though the team will miss the playoffs, they still are cheering on their fellow women’s team who won an impressive playoff game against De Anza College.
“We want to see them do well, even if we didn’t make it as far as them. They represent our school and we are rooting for them 100 percent”, Salazar said.
