Starting this semester students will have the opportunity to get to know Skyline College President Frances White along with ASSC President Tanya Johnson. The presidents will be meeting in the cafeteria starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27, Nov. 6 and 20. Students will be able to ask the presidents questions regarding school issues.”I got the idea from CSM associated student president Candace Alfaro,” Johnson said. “I thought it was a good idea – I brought it to Fran and she agreed.”The basic idea is to allow the students to get to know both White and Johnson. It will give students an opportunity to ask about the budget crisis, events at Skyline and any other concerns students pose. The first “Meet The Presidents” was held on Sept. 29. The turn out was not as good as White and Johnson anticipated.”Unfortunately at the first ‘Meet the Presidents’ only one person asked a question because it wasn’t made known to students,” White said. Both presidents are hoping that students will take advantage of this opportunity. They want to be obtainable to students and make their school environment feel more personal for them.”I looked at it as a way to make ourselves available to the students,” White said. “It will give students an opportunity to ask us questions.”According to Johnson, CSM has drawn in a good crowd of students who are eager to know what’s going on with their campus. She said that if students know they have this chance to ask questions then they will be better informed on school issues and future plans for Skyline. For now this is an experiment for both presidents and if all goes well they intend to have “Meet the Presidents” roll over for the spring semester.
