Continuing with the pre-trial on the Raymond Gardner’s case, the two defendants-John Navarro Jr. and Tito Sedeno-had a hearing in the San Mateo County Superior Court’s Redwood City branch.
Several of Gardner’s family members, and some friends attended the hearing. Some relatives of the defendants also attended to find out about their situations.
Both defendants seemed calmed and quiet across the window that separates the courtroom and the section designated for the defendants in custody. The alleged shooters approached the window as the judge called their names. Their pleads were then read.
Both Navarro and Sedeno plead not guilty to the charges and were scheduled for a preliminary examination on June 17 at 9 am.
Steve Wagstaffe, Deputy District Attorney for the San Mateo County said to be pleased with the pace in which this case has been moving.
“The case is preceding in the normal course,” Wagstaffe said. “The matter is moving at the speed with which cases of this seriousness do, so getting the preliminary hearing in June is appropriate and I am satisfied that we will progress to get this case to a jury and get justice done here soon.”
Ron Ruiz, Sedeno’s lawyer, said he thought it was still too early to comment on the case. He said that since the preliminary hearing was programmed for June, the trial could go to the end of this year or early next year.
A group of Navarro’s family members spoke to his attorney after the hearing. They did not have any comments to make on the issue.
Gardner’s family gathered outside the courtroom to wait for Wagstaffe, then they all left together towards the District Attorney’s office.
Gardner’s grandmother, Juanda Stuart, was appreciative of the comments the family has been hearing from people who knew her grandson.
“We are here to show support for a member of our family who was very dear to us,” Stuart said “[He was] a very beautiful person, a bright citizen and a great loss to the community.”
