The Expendables is written and directed by Sylvester Stallone and was action packed from beginning to end. If you grew up watching Stallone in his now classic films Rocky 1-6 and Rambo 1-4, then you will not be disappointed by the hand to hand combat and bloody battle scenes.
In the first scene Stallone and his group of mercenaries ambush a group of terrorist who have the ship’s crew members as hostages. The terrorist are relaying, via video, their demands to the company who employees the ship’s crew who are now hostages.
Stallone and his group of mercenaries interrupt the terrorist by pointing their weapons with lasers at the head and chest of the lead pirate. They give them the bag of ransom money and when they demand more then what they have Stallone says, “Take it and leave”, basically implying we can do this the hard way or the really hard way.
They deny the release of the hostages and the mercenaries have no option but to throw gas and disarm the terrorist mostly by shooting them until the last few surrender.
From there the story is short and sweet but the battles and fight scenes are long and blood soaked. The area The special effects seem very real–the blood so red that you can appreciate the true violent nature that entertains many like me who grew up watching movies like Predator, The Terminator, Total Recall and Die Hard.
It has been a while since movies had any real entertaining violence and I give much credit to Stallone for not only being one of the best action actors of all time but also being a great writer and director of movies such as this and Rambo 4.
Having the collaboration and star appearances by other well known action stars such as Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jet Li give this movie its own classic feel. It will be in the books for all time as the movie of many stars.
The actors picked seemed to be tailored to make the ultimate action packed movie. Jet Li mainly staring in foreign action films showcasing martial arts, Dolf Laundren, an older action movie star from the eighties, and Mickey Rourke, the star of many drama and action-packed movies, including Rumble Fish. This is a movie you need to see, since the Blu Ray releases next week, getting your hands on it is going to be easy, and with all the extra content that comes with blu rays these days you wont be disappointed.
