Christmas time is almost upon us once again. In this time of buying and wrapping presents, giving back to the community has almost become secondary in our minds. Luckily, one boy from Oklahoma is giving back in ways most adults can’t even fathom.
Eight year old Chase Rowe from Owasso, Okla. took holiday generosity to a new level when he donated nearly 500 gifts to his local Toys for Tots drive. What makes this so different than any other
child being generous? The toys were gathered during his own birthday party.
All the presents that were supposed to go towards Chase were donated to needy children. In an interview with ABCNews.com, Chase’s mother Tiffany Rowe says it was all his idea.
“We asked him what we can do for his birthday. We asked him what he really wants,” said Rowe. “He said he wanted his friends to bring unopened toys to bring to his party to donate.”
If that does not warm your heart, please check your pulse immediately. When you are that age, you are conditioned to believe that Santa is real and children ask for as many presents as possible. For
an eight year old to turn the focus away from his own selfish wants alone is astounding. For him to also think of those who are less fortunate this time of year is even more astounding.
All of us can learn a lot from Chase Rowe. It’s easy to walk by those asking for a donation during the holiday season without any second thoughts about it. We all have done it. But if we can somehow
donate to any foundation, it will make someone’s holiday a little brighter. As the saying goes, every penny counts.
