Going through the routine of life can feel overwhelming and monotonous at times. However, viewing your life through a different, more romanticized lens can help going through the motions feel like scenes out of a movie.
1. Peaceful dinner at home
Every once in a while, to add some excitement to your dinners, you can dress them up by adding candles around the table and placing flowers.
It takes money to make dinners, but you can challenge yourself like you’re in a “Chopped” episode and only allow yourself to use ingredients around the house. You can also give yourself a budget and pick a single store to assemble these meals.
Going the extra mile, you could add a tablecloth, have dinner in different places around your house, and add background music for extra ambiance.
2. Seeing life through a lens
Going outside can have a whole new meaning if you get in touch with your creative side through photography.
You can challenge yourself depending on the places you go, whether you theme it around a color or a specific animal. Photography doesn’t always require an expensive camera; your phone will do just fine. You already carry it everywhere—why not use it to romanticize your life?
Taking photos can help you realize how beautiful the world around you is. You can also start a social media page to post photos for your friends and family.
3. Learning a new language
Even on days you can’t leave your house, you can challenge yourself to learn a new language. The internet contains vast information; learning a new language is as easy as downloading a free app.
Programs such as Duolingo, Quizlet, and even Google can help you practice and learn a new language for free. Impressing your friends with a phrase you learned minutes ago can take as little as one lesson.
4. Exploring nature and sunsets
On days you feel more active, you can take a hike around your town. Each week, you can challenge yourself and increase how intense your walks get.
The Bay Area offers mountain ranges, parks, and beaches. On these walks, you can track your progress through apps such as Strava, so you can look back at your progress over time. On top of romanticizing your life, this could also improve your health.
5. Journaling
Everyone has so many thoughts, but sometimes not enough time or space to get them out. Journaling is a great outlet for that energy, and the style can vary from person to person.
There are a multitude of ways to express your thoughts. You can start a junk journal, crafting pages with whatever materials you have around your house. You can keep a diary and reflect on your thoughts and feelings, or write daily recaps, chronicling your day step by step.
