Trojan of The Month: Brayden Smith

“Trojan of the Month” is a section in which the Sports Editor of The Skyline View selects the top-performing athlete for each calendar month

March’s player of the month is Trojan freshman centerfielder Brayden Smith, largely because of his outstanding offensive performance.

Smith has recorded 13 hits in the Trojans’ series against Cañada College, including two separate five-hit games. Smith is not just a threat at the plate, but has stolen eight bases this month, and has a batting average of .448 and an outstanding OPS of 1.242.

Smith’s hitting capacity stands out, and his OPS leaves you starstruck. For context, a typical community college hitter has an OPS around .800.

He also plays stellar defense and makes great plays. Despite only having a fielding percentage of .969, Smith still tracks down the ball and times his plays well, even slamming his body into the barrier like in his Jan. 26 play against the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs.

Smith has been one of the Trojans’ most consistent hitters; in the month of March, he made it better than ever.

This might be the best season we have seen from a freshman center fielder in Skyline College in a long time, because he’s literally just dominating.
