Hatred runs strong in the gaming community

Do you play video games to escape your troubles and do things you can’t in real life? Well if you do your like me.

There are many games out there, ranging from sports to first or third person shooter games, and the list goes on. My personal preference is to play shooter games, and action games such as “Counter-Strike,” “Battlefield,” and “Grand Theft Auto.”

There’s a game called “Hatred,” that is planned to be released in quarter two of 2015. I’m not going to lie, it’s a senselessly brutal game with horrific violence against innocent people and police. It appears most gaming communities, and pretty much the internet in general, is losing their heads over this.

Even though this whole game is being blown out of proportion, and everyone is trying to be politically correct, especially with “gamergate” still occurring, people are forgetting to play and have fun.

Ranging from angry comments on the games’ YouTube channel, to writing angry emails to the developers, people are not pleased. Expressing their discomforts on how it’s too violent, it would tarnish their image as gamers, to even saying it’s going to destroy young people’s minds. Just because the in-game footage depicts a massacre and the plot of the story isn’t one of a hero, people think that it shouldn’t reach store shelves or hit the digital market.

OK, so let me get this straight: just because a game like “Grand Theft Auto,” where you can shoot and stab people, has a plot, that makes it acceptable? Give me a break. Don’t give me that excuse.

You play Grand Theft Auto and other games because you know you can’t do that in the real world. There are many other games that are just as violent as “Hatred” and they aren’t getting the same level of negative attention.

If you see the trailer for “Hatred,” and you’re absolutely appalled by it and you’re speaking out against the developers and the supporters of the game, then you don’t have to buy the game. No one is making you buy it. If you’re worried about your kids playing this game, then how about you do your job and not buy it. Don’t let them play it. Just forget this game even exists. That just means less money for the developers.

We should play the game and enjoy it because that’s the purpose of these video games. It’s out there to provide you with entertainment and give you the opportunity to escape from the real world, which is more violent than any video game.
