At approximately 11:10 this morning (Feb. 18), Skyline College’s building 8 lost power. This building houses language, communications, English and science classes, along with two computer labs.

Skyline College’s automotive garage is an extension of building 8, and their power also went out during class.

“I was in class, we were going over a lecture and all of a sudden, the lights went out and a buzzing sound came through the intercom,” said auto major Robert Rivera.

The automotive class often uses technology in order to learn.

“We’re just stepping out of class for break until the power comes back on,” said automotive student Kevin Comando.

“They’re using power from the car batteries,” said Robert Zeledon, another automotive student. “But besides that, all the computers and everything turned off, the projectors turned off, power out completely.”

Most classes stayed in until the power came back on, but some teachers chose to dismiss their students.

In this particular instance, professor Jessica Hurless, a Communications instructor, believed it was better to let the classes go. If there is no use of computers and software, as Hurless pointed out, it is better to leave.

The power came on at 11:52 a.m., where the classes present resumed daily routine.
