The bus circle on campus was immersed with water after the storm on Dec. 11, 2014.

Skyline College cancelled classes in response to flooding during the storm on Dec. 11.

The campus was closed as a precaution, a mass email informing students of the closure said.

Skyline College was the only school in the district to have to close in response to flooding. President Dr. Stanback Stroud made the decision just before the campus announcement was sent at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The District chancellor had decided previously to keep all three schools open. One reason made to stay open during the storm was stated in an email to district employees, “The District is sensitive to the academic calendar and the advent of finals next week.”

Some effects of the heavy wind and rain were a flooding in Building 4 and a power outage in the child development center in Building 14.

“We are working on making things stable for tomorrow,” Public Information Officer, Jennifer Blackmon-Owen said. “We’re still monitoring the situation and a decision [on reopening] should be made this evening”
