Men’s win first home game of the season

The Skyline men’s basketball team continues a season-long quest for the playoffs, advancing their record to 2-0 after their big triumph on Tuesday night. After a hard fought out game, the Trojans persevered, resulting in a 77-68 win. The game got off to a terrific start when the Trojans were the first to put up points onto the scoreboard, when Elijah White (number 3) made a 3-pointer that had everyone cheering in the stands.

The defense was strong throughout the entire game putting our opponent’s point guard under pressure. In the first half there was a surprising steal by Tavita Jimenez (number 30), which led to an incredible lay up. Great teamwork from each of the players contributed in their successful plays. The Trojans showed aggressiveness and assertiveness while grabbing multiple rebounds throughout the game. For a short moment during the first half of the game, the score was really close with just a one-point difference.

As the game unraveled, there was another steal made by Errol Fernandez (number 15) and the defense continued to stay strong and maintain their lead on the scoreboard. The atmosphere in the game became intense especially during the second half of the game. Whenever a 3-pointer hit the net it brought the crowd to the edge of their seat chanting with excitement. After an outrageous steal by Marquis Johnson (number 10) was made, Elijah White (number 3) followed through with an incredible 3 pointer.

“I think we stayed positive and had good energy, the main point is that we stayed together,” teammate Seth Snoddy said.

The players demonstrated good hustle, and great defensive skills that continued through to the second half of the game. Another steal was made which led to a strong lay up made by Wai Min (number 21). Throughout, the game consisted of fast paced passes and pushed eachother with encouragement and motivation throughout the game. The ending of the second half became really intense as both teams played aggressively, drawing multiple fouls however, they showed good defense. The Trojans were in the lead the entire game.

“I think they played really well, they prepared well and were focused throughout the whole week, and they competed hard, stayed together and it was great,“ Assistant Coach Kyle Wong said.

Nevertheless, their hard work, dedication and commitment were shown throughout the entire game and our Trojans persevered and won 77-68. They currently hold a 2-0 winning record. When asked about what the team needs to do to continue their winning streak, teammate Elijah White said, “continue talking on defense, share the ball as we did today, knock down our jump shots, and play defense.”

Their quest for the playoffs continues on Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. when they face the College of the Redwoods. This will be a home game and support from students and faculty is welcomed to help cheer on our Trojans.
