The Skyline Drama and Music Department performed the musical “9 to 5” over the weekend, drawing a packed audience and showcasing a lively production filled with music and humor. 

The show featured numerous songs, including “9 to 5,” originally performed by Dolly Parton. The music was performed live by the Skyline orchestra under the direction of Luis Zuniga.

This production did a great job keeping the audience engaged. The lighting and set design changed with each song which brought the scene to life. 

Faith Laurel starred as Doralee Rhodes, a role made famous by Parton in the original film. Laurel said she did not intentionally try to emulate the singer but received feedback noting the similarity.

“It was such a fun show. There were so many jokes,” Laurel said. “I actually wasn’t even trying to act like Dolly, but a lot of people told me I was.”

Annalyn Huerta, who played Violet Newstead and described the experience as both exciting and fast-paced.

“This was such a fun show, so chaotic,” Huerta said. “It was such an honor to be in my first show here, and I am so grateful they put their faith in me.”

Jazmine Williams played the third lead role, Judy Bernly, a nervous, inexperienced new hire at the office. 

The musical was directed by Chris Reber and choreographed by Lee Ann Payne. The student performers demonstrated clear dedication and preparation, delivering a polished and entertaining production.
