If you ride Samtrans you may have noticed that on Feb. 2 the prices for an adult have risen from $1.50 to $1.75 along with the cost of monthly passes and tokens. Some people are complaining that it’s unfair, but look around you.
With the rising price of gas and layoffs and what-not, it’s not too absurd for the prices to rise up a little bit, especially since fares only cover about 18% of the cost to operate a bus. On the other hand, if you do the math, the 25 cent increase can actually cost you a lot in the long run.
Time for a little calculation: if you take the bus twice a day, five days a week then it’ll be an extra $5 a week, $20 a month, and $240 a year!
But then again, all that extra money will be put to helping you get to school, work, the mall, the movies, or wherever you want to go. So in actuality maybe that 25 cents isn’t so bad.
