The Skyline College lady Trojans hosted the number 2 ranked Foothill College Owls on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The game started off with both teams playing hard defense with Skyline scoring the 1st two points of the game. While the lady Trojans had a height disadvantage, they still played their hardest. Foothill’s passing game and ability to score shots made them triumphant on the score board.
Key players on the Skyline team include: lead scorer Laura Zasly with 14 points in the game, Jonah Lu sunk three triples on the night, defensive plays were executed by Brie Reddick, who got a nice block knocking down her opponent.
By the end of the first half the score showed Skyline staggering behind with 23 points and Foothill with 43 points. The Trojans weakness as a team stretched all over the court. The turnovers hurt them on the scoreboard substantially. Missed shots and easy lay ups continued to slip through their fingers, along with missed free throws. When asked about their performance, the Lady Trojans claimed “We played our hardest throughout the whole game”.
The second half was more or less like the first. Skyline was down by 33 points 13:10 within the second half and missed shots prevailed for the majority of the quarter, moreover, their passing game didn’t get any better. However, the players weren’t going down without a fight even if it was a brief one. Outstanding three point shots were made in the end of the second half by some star players including Lu and Zasly. Skyline’s offense took advantage of inside shots in the court and despite the missed shots, the girls put an effort to gain the rebounds.
It was a difficult game for the Trojans against the dominating Foothill Owls but they can easily bounce back. Catch them next time on February 6 5:30 PM at Skyline College.
