Everybody needs a best friend to stand up at the altar with them on the supposed most important day of their life. Be it a best man or a maid of honor, every one has someone to fill the position. Everyone except Paul Rudd.
Rudd stars as Peter Klaven, whose life has always been so filled with women that he never made time to make any guy friends. This problem comes to his attention after he becomes engaged to Zooey, played by Rashida Jones of “The Office” fame. Overhearing a conversation between Zooey and her closest friends, Peter realizes he is not only missing a best man but an entire groomsman party. This leads to Peter going on a series of “man dates.”
After a couple of failed blind dates, Peter meets Sydney Fife, played by “How I Met Your Mother’s” Jason Segal, while hosting an open house. The two immediately hit it off and the movie begins to delve into a deeper plot than simply man dating to find a best man.
One of my favorite things about this movie was how natural the actors kept in character considering how many movies they’ve made together. They really do a good job of coming together and giving the appearance of a natural bond between two friends. Of course, they also do a great job with the innuendos in the movie.
If you are a fan of any of the cast, including the cameos from Jon Favreau, Lou Ferrigno, and Andy Samberg, then this is a movie for you. It’s an original plot with great acting; From beginning to the end, the laughs keep coming.
