There was a lot of hype surrounding this movie, and most of it was from the massive fanbase surrounding it. That being said, I walked into the movie without having read the book, and not really knowing much besides some Edward guy is a vampire.
The general gist of Twilight is a girl named Isabella Swan (Kirsten Stewart), who just INSISTS on being called “Bella,” ends up having to move from Phoenix to live with her dad who’s in a small forest town of Forks, Washington. She falls in love with Edward Cullen (Robert Pattison) who happens to be a vampire, and complications obviously arise.
Now this movie isn’t great, or something to be amazed over. There are a few corny lines and some of the “vampire powers,” mainly the whole superhuman running thing, look rather silly. The story itself actually feels shallow too, though that could just be because of the whole book to movie thing, but again, I wouldn’t actually know. Despite all this, I still enjoyed the movie.
The thing I probably liked was the characters. Not all of them, though. For example, Bella was easy to hate, despite being the main character in the whole movie. Whenever she spoke it seemed to be cringe-worthy.
No, it was the minor characters that were enjoyable. The ones like Bella’s father, Charlie, who’s the town’s Sherriff and is just plain amusing, or Jacob, Bella’s childhood friend. Even the random group of friends she had from her high school were fun.
There were also some good scenes in there, so it’s not like the movie was a dud, though my own personal favorite scene is when vampires play baseball, so make of that what you will.
In the end it probably isn’t going to be a good movie to watch for most, but if you try, you could actually like it a bit. Or you could just want to see Robert Pattison topless and sparkle.
